Great to see our Arrowtown project starting to com Great to see our Arrowtown project starting to come together! Situated on a stunning site with 360 degree views, this new home design balances maximising those views while protecting the occupants from the weather extremes across the seasons. The design has been energy modelled in PHPP to ensure comfortable temperatures and low energy use year-round, and features @aplnz_ Centrafix recessed thermally broken windows with Viridian Lightbridge glazing, a balanced Heat Recovery Ventilation system, @proclimanz Intello airtightness layer with services cavity, @ardexnewzealand warm roof system and @adluxnz high performing Harmony skylights. Looking forward to seeing the finished product in this build by @modboxqueenstownltd.

teamed up with @davidreidhomes (Central and West) teamed up with @davidreidhomes (Central and West) to design this bespoke new home in the heritage suburb of Mt Eden.

Nestled in the rear of a subdivided site, tucked away behind a Mt Eden Villa, is this small but perfectly formed home. Designed to create a private, low-maintenance haven for its owners, maximising views of the Waitakere Ranges, this project was years in the making, facing a complicated Resource Consenting process (due to the Heritage overlay on the site), and the challenges of construction during COVID lockdowns. The result was worth waiting for though – the floor plan arrangement is rigorous, with no wasted space and flexibility built in. Designed to accommodate its owners into old age, accessibility is integral to the design, with a lift, level thresholds, wide hallways and doors, and wheelchair accessible bathrooms. The landscape design is fully considered as part of the architecture, with the yard maximised to include covered outdoor seating and dining spaces, a hot tub, vegetable and ornamental gardens, and a small lawn space for grandchildren to play – all flowing off the main living space.

We are proud to announce that our Windy Ridge Scho We are proud to announce that our Windy Ridge School project was an Excellence Award Winner in the Colliers Project Leaders Education category at the Property Industry Awards 2024.

Project Lead for Respond Architects, Joseph Lyth, said the project was “a pleasure to lead”, and credited the entire project team.

Providing 12 new teaching spaces for the Green-Gold Enviroschool located on Auckland’s North Shore, the healthy, low energy and eco-friendly building came in under budget and was completed a month ahead of schedule, thanks to a streamlined design process and well-coordinated build.

“It’s proof that when you consider performance from the start of the design process, achieving better buildings does not have to cost more,” said Joe.

Recently some of the RA team were invited to give Recently some of the RA team were invited to give a short presentation to the Takapuna Grammar School Science & Engineering club, along with Accent Construction and the @educationgovtnz . They provided an overview of the Performing Arts Block remediation project and its challenges, and outlined their careers as woman in construction, discussing how their careers paths developed.
.
It was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about a major construction project happening at the school, hear about the construction industry in New Zealand in general, and hopefully was inspiring for the female identifying students to have an all female construction project team coming to talk to them.

Consent Lodged for this stunning new home on the o Consent Lodged for this stunning new home on the outskirts of Auckland! On a challenging steep site, with expansive harbour views to the south, the project responds to the clients brief for a contemporary home that knits together interior and exterior living, fengshui, and extensive cooking facilities! Thermal modelling enabled us to tailor the project to meet the clients required performance, while a Lossnay balanced MVHR system will ensure the interior environment is healthy throughout the year.
.
A key challenge was that the main views and openings were to the south - not ideal for solar gain, but through exploring different specifications in the model we could assess the impact on heating demand and overheating of each decision to achieve adequate performance levels. While reducing heating energy demand is important, with our changing climate, managing overheating potential is arguably even more of a priority. With this project we reduced the overheating potential from over 8% under the H1 schedule method minimum standards, down to just over 3% with the proposed glazing. The modelling also showed that with standard glazing, while the heating demand would have been slightly lower, the proposed building would have had an overheating risk of nearly 12% - a good example of making sure you’re balancing the specification both ways, and how energy modelling can take the unknown risks out of performance!
.
Final metrics compared to H1 schedule method minimums:
22% lower heating energy demand
58% lower overheating risk
69% lower overall energy demand PER
