A big day at our Orakei Multigenerational House… A big day at our Orakei Multigenerational House… it has achieved pre-construction Passive House Certification, but the real proof is in the as-built quality through site inspections, and the big one - the blower door test. . This is was the pre-line test before insulation and plasterboard goes on, to check the levels of airtightness that had been achieved. Higher levels of airtightness and a lower number mean less heat loss, less chance of condensation entering the walls, and a more energy efficient and durable building. You can still open the windows and doors, while constant background ventilation with heat recovery is provided by a balanced ventilaiton system. Most new builds in NZ achieve around 5ach, with the Passive House requirement as 0.6ach. . It’s the contractors first SIPs project, and their first Passive House project, so there were definitely a few nerves….but the result came in….at 0.26ach for both pressurisation, and depressurisation; and the @starke_nz joinery is yet to be adjusted to see how much more we can eek out!
